SAN ANGELO, TX— Most city offices in San Angelo will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, according to the City of San Angelo.
Essential services, such as garbage collection and landfill operations, will continue as usual, and offices are set to reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The annual Veterans Day Commemorative Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Fairmount Cemetery, located at 1120 W. Avenue N. The ceremony is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to honor the service of all U.S. military veterans.
Among the city facilities closed on Nov. 11 are Station 618 and Santa Fe Crossing senior centers, Southside and Carl Ray Johnson recreation centers, the San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department, Fairmount Cemetery’s business offices, Municipal Court, the San Angelo Animal Shelter, and the Women, Infants & Children division.
Fort Concho, including the Barracks 1 Visitor Center, will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 11. Veterans and their families will receive free admission to self-guided tours.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, members of Friends of Fairmount and volunteers will gather at Fairmount Cemetery to honor veterans by placing over 1,800 flags on the gravesites of those who served in various American wars, including the Texas War of Independence. The flag-placing event begins at 2 p.m.
