Woman Found Hanging in Apparent Suicide at Tom Green County Jail

SAN ANGELO, TX — A female inmate at the Tom Green County Jail died by apparent suicide Sunday night after being found hanging in her cell, according to Tom Green County Sheriff Nick Hanna.

This is the second death reported at the jail in recent days. Last week, a male inmate died of a heart attack, according to Hanna. Both incidents are under investigation by the Texas Rangers. While foul play is not suspected, the investigation will examine any potential deficiencies in jail policies and procedures.

"I believe it is important to have full transparency in how our jail operates," Hanna said.

The sheriff is withholding the names of the deceased inmates, in accordance with jail policy and San Angelo LIVE!’s policy on reporting suicides.
