The novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four" has become a classic literary example of political and dystopian fiction. It also popularized the term "Orwellian" as an adjective, with many terms used in the novel also entering common usage, including "Big Brother," "doublethink" and "Thought Police." This authorized stage adaptation, "1984," is true to the novel, in which Orwell depicts with great power the horrors of man's fate in a society where Big Brother is always watching, and where everything that is not prohibited is compulsory.
The adapted stage play earned two 2013 Liverpool Arts Awards and a 2014 UK Theatre Award, and it was nominated for a 2018 Tony Award.
"1984" contains adult themes and is recommended for audiences 18 and older.
Under the direction of Daniel Anderson, director of University Theatre, the ASU student cast includes Jordan Chapman, Kirby Paugh, Mitchell Martinez, Catalina Perry, Tyson Walls, Addison Gregoire, Xander Cooper, Emily Wagner and Demetrius Armstrong.
