Survey Shows Increase in San Angelo’s Affordable Sub-$20K Used Cars for 2024

SAN ANGELO, TX — After years of shrinking availability of affordable used cars, a new study by iSeeCars reveals an uptick in the share of vehicles priced under $20,000 in San Angelo.

The share of affordable used cars rose to 13.2% in 2024, up from 8% in 2023, reversing a decline that brought the number down from 31.8% in 2019, according to the study.

The iSeeCars study, which analyzed over 17.9 million 1- to 5-year-old used car prices, found that sub-$20K cars accounted for 16.5% of the national market in 2024, up from 12.7% in 2023. However, the report highlighted that San Angelo’s average used car price still remains high at $35,191 — a slight decrease from $36,645 in 2023 but a significant jump from $27,307 in 2019.

Several popular models saw notable price drops in San Angelo over the past year. The Nissan Rogue led the pack with a 6.7% price decline in 2024, bringing the average price to $22,032. Other models such as the Toyota Camry and RAV4 saw declines of 6% and 5%, respectively.

Despite the higher average used car prices, San Angelo saw an increase in the market share of sub-$20K cars for certain models. The Nissan Rogue, which accounted for 40.7% of used car sales under $20,000 in 2024, was the most popular affordable car. It was followed by the Chevrolet Malibu at 38.7% and the Chevrolet Equinox at 32.3%.

“After years of increasing used car prices, we’ve finally seen prices drop in the past year,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars’ executive analyst. “Used car prices remain above pre-pandemic levels, but buyers are seeing improvements in affordability.”

The study also found that lower-priced cars are showing lower mileage, giving consumers more value as they shop for affordable vehicles with fewer miles.
