SAISD Issues Statement Regarding Distasteful Video

SAN ANGELO, TX— San Angelo Independent School District has issued a statement regarding a concerning video that surfaced online last week.

Last week, San Angelo LIVE! received multiple messages containing a video that shows San Angelo Independent School District Special Education Teachers. In the video, the teachers say,” I’m a special education teacher, of course…” then follow up with something related to their job.

These types of videos are a “TikTok” trend.

Individuals in the San Angelo community were upset by the video, sending messages that said:

“Teachers in your area making an inappropriate and disturbing video about special needs kids”

“San Angelo ISD SPED teachers making tiktoks abt the kids they serve:”

“Someone needs to help be a voice for the innocent children blast them at this point. So tired of seeing people get away with the same behavior when we need to save our children”

(Note that none of the individuals that sent messages to San Angelo LIVE! confirmed they were parents to any special education students in SAISD. The closest relation to any SPED students was a grandparent.)

The video has been removed from TikTok.

San Angelo Independent School District issued the following statement to San Angelo LIVE!:

“This weekend, San Angelo ISD was made aware of a video created by some of our staff members. The content of this video does not reflect the values or standards of San Angelo ISD. We sincerely apologize for the hurt and offense this has caused, especially to students in special education and their families.

Please know that we are taking this matter very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation into this situation. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all students. We value the partnership we share with our families as we work to address this situation and prevent similar incidents in the future.”

The post has been removed from the Facebook page, San Angelo 411, but comments on the post were both in support of the teachers in the video, not necessarily of the content however, and other comments were against the teacher posting the video and the teacher's comments.

The video can still be found on Facebook but not on the San Angelo 411 page.

They aren't targeting anyone specifically, and it isn't bad or offensive.
