SAN ANGELO, TX — In 2016, the San Angelo Fire Fighters Association (SAFFA) Local 886 purchased the buildings at 15 W. Beauregard and 17 W. Beauregard. On Sunday night, July 21, 2024, the sign adorning the firefighters association began to fall.
Although affiliated with the AFL-CIO unions, public safety advocates like Local 886 in Texas prefer to be referred to as an association. While they cannot go on strike, they do advocate for better pay and working conditions for San Angelo’s firefighters.
Tragically, the sign that adorned Local 886 is no more. Ironically, it was responding firefighters who had to cut down the failing sign Sunday night. Over the radio, the incident was reported as a “public service call” at 10:35 p.m.
Firefighters worked on taking down what was left of the sign until almost midnight.
For more on Local 886, we published an article about the association in 2017.
