SAN ANGELO— Crews have already started working on the new Amazon facility that is coming to San Angelo.
Last month, Amazon announced it was building a new last mile facility in San Angelo. Now, construction crews are clearing the ground for the foundation of the building an Amazon warehouse in the industrial park on Venture Drive.
Information released by the City of San Angelo reads:
Amazon announced plans to expand its investment in Texas by opening a new delivery station in San Angelo in 2024. This new facility will be approximately 32,800 square feet located off of State Loop 306 at the intersection of Venture Drive and Gateway Drive. Launch plans for this delivery station are in the very early stages, with construction underway.
“This last mile facility will allow us to better serve customers in San Angelo and the surrounding area,” said Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the City of San Angelo and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future.”
The new last-mile facility will help power the last mile of Amazon’s fulfillment process by enabling fast, everyday delivery directly to customers’ doorstep. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers and then employees process customer packages for last-mile delivery. Most employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn between $17 and $28 per hour.
“The completion of negotiations and construction of the Amazon last mile facility further advances the strategic economic development logistics program of “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” that connects the San Angelo economy to global manufacturing and trade. I am pleased to welcome Amazon to San Angelo and we shall continue to support Amazon’s long-term goals in West Texas,” said Mayor Brenda Gunter.
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 89,000 full- and part-time jobs in Texas and invested more than $54 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to our employees. These investments have contributed an additional $59 billion to the Texas economy and have helped create more than 166,600 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires—from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 38,000 independent sellers—most of which are small and medium-sized businesses—in Texas are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
