Angelo State University PD Unveils New Headquarters

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University Police Department had its open house today to tour the new police building.

The new police department is located at Vanderventer Plaza, 2410 Vanderventer Ave.

The previous ASU Police Department building was at W. Ave N and S. Jackson. It was a leased facility that housed the department for 16 years.

The new facility was said to be about 8,500 square feet, compared to the previous facility with about 5,000 square feet.

This project began in January of 2023. This newer facility is closer to campus.

James Adams, Director of Public Safety and Chief of University Police, reviewed some of the new building’s features.

He said that the new building has expanded offices, interview rooms, and improvements to patrol and dispatch operations.

Another notable improvement is backup generator power, the chief of university police said.

He said this new generator is the size of a small school bus. The old facility had a small portable Honda-powered backup generator.

“The building itself demonstrates the university administration’s commitment to safety to the faculty, staff, and students,” Police Lieutenant Marc West said. “Bringing us closer to the campus and students.”

Adams also mentioned that the first university police department established here was back in 1968.

He continued to talk about the history of the university police department.
