Concrete Barriers Removed From Veterans Memorial Bridge

SAN ANGELO, TX — The concrete barriers on the Veterans Memorial Bridge over Lake Nasworthy have been removed, leaving the bridge open with no lane closures.

Yesterday, April 9, traffic was shut down for one-way traffic only, leaving drivers waiting to cross the lake. That’s because the concrete traffic barriers were being removed.

This morning, April 10, workers were picking up the remaining traffic drums. TxDOT had previously reported that the bridge expansion joints project was expected to finish in April.

The remaining work on the project is all substructure work, which may require one lane to be closed "here and there," but no major closures are anticipated.

We reported earlier that contractors were doing routine maintenance on the bridge.

According to TxDOT, contractors performed night work on the bridge substructure (mainly painting) the week of March 4th.

The contractor started working on the bridge deck expansion joints in the subsequent week.
