Life-size Cutouts Planned of Creatures That Left Prints in State Park

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Friends of San Angelo State Park has launched a fundraising campaign to enhance educational and visitor experiences through the addition of life-size metal cut-outs of prehistoric animals. 

The proposed additions include four metal cut-outs of “Dimetrodon” and “Eryops,” ancient creatures responsible for the Permian tracks found within the park. 

These tracks, visible along the “Little Foot Draw” expedition, are over 200 million years old, dating back to the Permian Era. 

Visitors can embark on a journey to view these prehistoric footprints at Gate 8-3 on FM 2288, approximately 7 miles north of the park’s South Entrance. 

The trek to the site spans about 1 1/2 miles and leads to the Permian period tracks. 

Community members and visitors are encouraged to support this educational endeavor by making donations to the "Friends of San Angelo State Park" through their website at friendsofsanangelostatepark.org.
