Meet Your New Chief of Police Monday Evening

SAN ANGELO, Texas — With the upcoming non-partisan Police Chief election looming over San Angelo, residents are gearing up to cast their votes on May 4, 2024. The city, known for its unique electoral process, is the sole municipality in Texas that still elects its Police Chief.

Three candidates are vying for the coveted four-year term to succeed outgoing Chief Frank Carter, who announced he will not seek re-election. The contenders include Lt. Mike 'Burrito' Hernandez, Sgt. Travis Griffith, and Officer Chris Cimino.

In an effort to facilitate informed decision-making among voters, San Angelo LIVE! is set to host a Police Chief Candidate Forum/Debate on Monday evening, March 18, 2024. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Sugg Room at the Stephens Central Library.

Moderated by San Angelo LIVE! publisher Joe Hyde, the forum promises an insightful introduction of the candidates along with a comprehensive question-and-answer segment. The forum will also be streamed live on the San Angelo LIVE! website, YouTube, and Facebook platforms to ensure broader accessibility for the community.

While admission to the event is free, organizers urge attendees to arrive early, as seating is limited. Additionally, San Angelo LIVE! is encouraging community engagement by accepting endorsement letters in the Police Chief race. Endorsement letters can be submitted via email to [email protected].

With the race heating up and the community's anticipation palpable, the upcoming forum offers a pivotal opportunity for San Angelo residents to engage directly with the candidates and make informed decisions ahead of the May election.
