VIDEO: Local Restaurateur Escapes Serious Injury in Explosion

SAN ANGELO, TX - An explosion in the kitchen of Lily’s Pizza recently injured the owner.

The owner, Fernando Fuentez, told San Angelo LIVE! that he "dodged a bullet" after obtaining first and second-degree burns to his face, arm, back, and hand.

"Could have been way worse," Fuentez said. "Thank God it wasn't."

According to Fuentez, he was attempting to light the “pilot light.”

The oven’s pilot light was supposed to be burning 24/7, but when he arrived at the restaurant to open Sunday morning, the pilot had extinguished.

He believes a "pocket" of natural gas was inside the oven from the pilot.

"I am lucky to be alive," Fuentez said.
