SAN ANGELO, TX - For Valentine's Day, Professional Boxer Abel Mendoza, with a record of 40 wins and 0 losses, took time on Monday to share love and positivity with the elderly residents of Meadow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in San Angelo.
San Angelo LIVE! caught up with the 27-year-old athlete in action, where Mendoza went door to door, distributing roses to every individual he encountered.
Mendoza, originally from Pecos, TX, shared his motivation for choosing a nursing home for this thoughtful gesture.
“My mom used to work at a nursing home, and I just thought that I should do it at a nursing home because their time is very limited,” Mendoza said. "There’s a lot of negativity going on in this world, a lot of hate, and I just want to try and do something positive. I don’t know how people can spread negativity and feel good about it. It’s a way better feeling when you spread positivity and do something good.”
Mendoza, who began this tradition last year, intends to continue the practice in various West Texas towns, including Odessa and Pecos.
“A friend of mine told me about San Angelo; they said that there’s a lot going on,” he said. "There’s a lot of negativity and crime, and the idols the kids look up to aren’t the best. So, I’m just trying to do something different.”
During the interview, Mendoza emphasized his dedication to spreading love and mentioned his undefeated boxing record, with 28 of his 40 wins secured through knockouts.
