SAN ANGELO, TX - A celebratory event unveiled the newly renovated Elsie Gayer Chapel at Baptist Retirement Community on Feb. 6.
The renovation project, made possible by a generous $115,000 grant from the Art and Eva Camuñez Tucker Foundation, enhanced the living community's facilities.
Aaron Hargett, senior executive director of BRC, said that the building hadn’t been renovated since the early 1990s.
“That $115,000 went to a lot of great new carpet, lighting, wiring for our sound system, along with a refresh on the outside,” Hargett said. “$115,000 doesn’t go a long way these days, but we did what we could to make this space beautiful.”
Buckner International, a faith-based nonprofit, oversees the community through its ministry, Buckner Retirement Services.
The Elsie Gayer Chapel is located at 902 N. Main Street.
The Chapel is dedicated in memory of the life and devoted service of Elsie Gayer, RN, who founded Baptist Memorial Geriatric Hospital in 1951 and served as its administrator until 1968.
Information states that Baptist Retirement Community is a faith-based nonprofit situated on a 100-acre campus in San Angelo.
The retirement community states that it is “dedicated to ensuring residents thrive and find fulfillment in their community.”
Among those in attendance were Texas State Rep. Drew Darby of District 72 and other executives from Dallas.
Offering a Life Plan that includes independent living, memory care assisted living, short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, and a personal assistance program, the community provides on-site amenities such as a pharmacy, health clinic, chapel, beauty salons, a restaurant, and fitness centers.
Baptist Retirement Community is owned and operated by Buckner Retirement Services, part of the faith-based nonprofit Buckner International.
Buckner International has served children, families, and seniors across Texas and internationally since 1879.
