SAN ANGELO, TX — To promote safety and security for citizens engaging in child custody exchanges and internet transactions, the San Angelo Police Department has established a designated Safe Exchange Zone at Police Headquarters, 401 E. Beauregard.
The Safe Exchange Zone comprises specifically marked parking spots, easily identifiable by signage, situated at the police headquarters.
Open to the public 24/7, the area is well-lit and equipped with surveillance cameras, ensuring a secure environment for legal transactions and child custody exchanges.
This initiative aims to provide a police-protected and camera-monitored space where members of the community can confidently conduct exchanges of legal items, including internet sales and child custody transfers.
For those unable to utilize the Safe Exchange Zone, the department offers essential safety tips to ensure secure transactions elsewhere:
- Choose Well-Lit and Monitored Public Parking Lots: Opt for public spaces that are well-lit and equipped with surveillance cameras.
- Avoid Going Alone: Safety is reinforced in numbers. Bring a friend or family member with you for added security.
- Inform Others About Your Plans: Always share your whereabouts, activities, and meeting times with friends or family.
- Avoid Home Transactions: Refrain from meeting at your residence, and never agree to transactions taking place at night.
- Emergency Protocol: In the event of an emergency, dial 911 immediately for assistance.
