SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo City Council officially designated January as School Board Recognition Month, honoring the commitment of seven individuals who volunteer their time to serve the community's educational needs.
At the city council meeting held Jan. 16, San Angelo ISD's new Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran introduced himself and also spoke over the board of trustees.
“Today, and in this time, schools have come under attack like no other,” Moran said at the meeting. “These seven individuals have stepped forward to serve this community as volunteers.”
He mentioned that the board of trustees advocates and serves the community faithfully.
The distinguished group of servant leaders includes Board President Dr. Taylor Kingman, Vice President Mrs. Ami Mizell‐Flint, Secretary Mr. Gerard Gallegos, Treasurer Mr. Bill Dendle, Mrs. Pam Duncan, Dr. Kyle Mills, and Mrs. Lupita Arroyo.
"We're blessed to have a great relationship with the city and community leaders," Kingman said. "Our district is filled with wonderful teachers and administrators who are working diligently to prepare students for success. It's our job as a board to support that and also support the areas that we need to improve. We understand that community relationships are important so that we can create students that have more success, and that's good for San Angelo."
City Mayor Brenda Gunter then read the official proclamation.
“The mission of public schools is to meet the diverse educational needs of all children and to empower them to become competent, productive contributors to our society and an ever‐changing world,” the proclamation reads. “Our San Angelo ISD Board members are committed to the children of San Angelo and believe all children can be successful life‐long learners and that the best education is tailored to the individual needs of each child to support each child’s hopes and dreams.”
The proclamation urges all citizens to recognize the dedication and hard work of the San Angelo ISD school board members and to partner with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today’s and tomorrow’s children and produces future‐ready graduates.
