WATCH: Goodfellow AFB Strengthens Community Ties Through Training

SAN ANGELO, TX - Goodfellow Air Force Base's 17th Training Wing recently hosted a 17th Training Group immersion event for its "Honorary Commanders" on Friday, Jan. 12.

The 17th Training Group, the largest among the four groups within the 17th Training Wing, oversees the training of fire protection professionals and conducts education courses for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

Honorary Commanders are members of the local community selected through an annual application process.

“We can’t do what we do here at Goodfellow Air Force Base without the local community, our ties with the local community, and the love that San Angelo has for our joint partners and airmen,” said Col. Jason Kulchar the 17th TRG Commander. “I think they will gain an appreciation of what we do to train our next generation of airmen. What goes into it, the demand it puts on our instructors and staff here, and what it means to create our airmen.”

The goal of Goodfellow's Honorary Commander program is to provide insights into the significance of the 17th Training Wing, the United States Air Force, and the Department of Defense.

It also promotes a mutual understanding between the Honorary Commanders and Goodfellow’s leadership and personnel.

Among the notable attendees were leaders from various local organizations, each contributing to the diversity of perspectives. The Honorary Commanders and their respective organizations include:
