Experts Recommend San Angeloans Gear Up for Cold Weather

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - In anticipation of the impending cold weather, the City of San Angelo has issued a set of crucial tips for residents to ensure their homes and families are adequately prepared. 

As temperatures are expected to drop, the city government emphasizes the importance of taking preventive measures to safeguard homes, utilities, and personal well-being.

Cold Weather Preparation Tips:

Home Maintenance:

  • Turn off sprinkler systems to prevent freezing and damage.
  • Maintain a consistent indoor temperature of at least 55 degrees throughout the day and night.
  • Wrap exterior pipes and faucets to protect them from the cold.
  • Remove garden hoses from outside faucets and cover hose bibs.
  • Allow water to drip from indoor faucets on exterior walls to prevent freezing.
  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to expose pipes to the warmer air within the house.

Pet Safety:

  • Never leave pets outdoors when temperatures drop below freezing.

Carbon Monoxide Safety:

  • Never use generators, grills, camp stoves, or other fuel-burning devices inside enclosed areas to avoid the risk of fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dealing with Water Leaks:

  • Attempt to turn off water at the cutoff near the street.
  • Report water leaks promptly to the City Water Distribution office at 325-657-4295.

Power Outage Reporting:

  • Report power outages to AEP Texas at aeptexas.com/outages/report or call 866-223-8508.

Supplies and Medications:

  • Ensure you have the necessary home supplies before the storm arrives.
  • Verify that you are up-to-date on your medications.

  • Stay informed about weather conditions by following the US National Weather Service Abilene/San Angelo, Texas.
  • Use weather apps on your phone for real-time updates.
  • Check weather alerts from local media outlets.

It has been previously reported that over 24 hours of below-freezing temperatures are scheduled to hit the Concho Valley at the beginning of the week, Monday, Jan. 15. 

The high for Monday is 30 degrees with the low temperature dipping down to 15 degrees. 

The following Tuesday will have a low of 11 degrees and a high of 32 degrees.
