San Angelo Police Department Looking for Aspiring Officers

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Police Department is actively seeking individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, as revealed in recent announcements.

For those aspiring to join the force, the starting salary for recruits stands at $54,400. However, the department provides a clear progression in terms of salary, with the breakdown as follows:

  • Police Officer: Basic $58,500
  • Police Officer: Intermediate $65,500
  • Police Officer: Advanced $71,500
  • Police Officer: Master $76,500

The entry level pay is also an increase as the previous pay for a recruit officer was $48,149. 

The larger salaries come after talks between the San Angelo City Council and the San Angelo Police Officers Coalition in effort to make officer pay competitive with other surrounding areas. 

Applicants must meet specific qualifications, including being a high school graduate or possessing a GED (in the case of GED graduates, 12 college credit hours are required). 

Other requirements include U.S. citizenship, a valid driver's license, and an age range of 21 to 45 years for those without military service or a college degree. Applicants aged 18 to 21 must have two years of prior military service or sixty semester hours of college credit.

Furthermore, candidates are expected to exhibit good moral character, maintain good physical condition, and possess uncorrected vision of 20/200 or better in each eye, correctable to 20/30. 

Successful completion of a civil service written exam is mandatory, and applicants should not have a criminal history, poor driving record, or convictions for certain offenses.

Also, officers are entitled to retirement benefits through the Texas Municipal Retirement System.
