SAN ANGELO, TX — Progress toward the completion of College Hills Boulevard marks a significant step forward in the city's infrastructure development. For over a year, the intersection of Avenue N and College Hills has remained blocked, disrupting traffic flow along College Hills to Loop 306. This detour has led to frustration among San Angelo residents, affecting local businesses along the route, and resulting in substantial revenue losses.
The prolonged blockade prompted several affected businesses to utilize social media platforms like Facebook, engaging with the community to shed light on their challenging situation. Successful attempts by business owners to communicate their plight garnered community support, attracting more patrons through friendly reminders and updates.
However, College Hills Boulevard remains closed to though traffic from Millbrook to Sunset Blvd, with the final blockade yet to be cleared. Once this last hurdle is addressed, College Hills will be fully operational, a crucial part of the City’s ambitious $80 million street reconstruction plan spanning ten years.
Presently in its eighth year, the project has made substantial progress, with over half the work completed. Notable street reconstructions under this plan include Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Bell Street, and Southwest Blvd. Upon the College Hills project's conclusion, the city's focus will shift to the finalization of Howard Street.
Furthermore, the City has approved the revamping of Chadbourne Street, slated to commence in January 2024, following the completion of ongoing projects.
