SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Central High School Cheerleading squad celebrated a significant victory at the UCA North Texas Regional competition on November 18. Head coach Makayla Morgan led her squad to triumph over ten other teams in their division known as the "Gameday Large" category. Notably, the CHS varsity cheerleaders achieved the highest score of 94.5 among all competing teams at the tournament.
This marks Morgan’s inaugural year as the CHS head coach, despite her four-year tenure assisting the squad and six years of teaching at San Angelo Central. Originally from East Texas, she graduated from Texas Tech University. In her rookie year as head coach, Morgan successfully united a young squad consisting of only 3 seniors, 6 juniors, and the remaining members as sophomores.
Preparation is underway for the upcoming NCA State competition scheduled in Dallas, Texas, on December 10th. Morgan highlighted the intense competition season for cheerleading, with this event in December and two more competitions slated for January. She expressed confidence in her squad's top-tier performance and anticipates leading them to further victories in 2024.
