A Young Local Pizza Chef with Big Dreams

SAN ANGELO, Texas – In the service industry, it's common to find teenagers and young adults juggling multiple jobs alongside their studies to cover tuition, books, or living expenses. However, what's less prevalent is seeing young women, particularly in the back of the house, working on food preparation, crafting fresh pasta, or flipping pizzas as a career. But that's precisely where 20-year-old Sara Kathryn Moss thrives. Born and raised in San Angelo, she's been deeply entrenched in the food service industry for four years, ever since graduating from Central High School in 2021, particularly honing her skills at the Cork and Pig Tavern in town.

For Sara, her love for cooking and baking has been a lifelong passion, fostered by experiences in the kitchen while growing up and enjoying a myriad of tastes and aromas that she finds limitless. Her journey into the culinary world gained momentum when she enrolled in a Culinary class at Central High School, an experience that, despite being impacted by Covid restrictions during the 2020 pandemic, fueled her knowledge and appreciation for the art of cooking with intent.

As a back-of-the-house cook, Sara's responsibilities span various tasks, including prepping fresh ingredients for Woodfire Brick Oven pizzas, ensuring cleanliness and readiness on the line, and handling the entire pizza-making process from dough preparation to baking to perfection in the brick oven.

Looking ahead, Sara envisions a grand future in the culinary realm. But recognizing that education and practical skills are essential, she plans to attend The Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio starting April 2024. Her ambition is to earn an associate's degree and eventually become a private chef, aiming to travel the world. Sara believes that working for diverse people with different culinary backgrounds worldwide will significantly enhance her skills and versatility as a chef. To her, the unique food cultures and tastes across the globe offer endless opportunities for learning and growth.

At the core of Sara's aspirations lies an authentic love for culinary arts and a desire to bring joy to people through her food. Currently, she's applying for the Texas Restaurant Association Scholarship, hoping for selection to support her career journey and aspirations.
