SAN ANGELO, TX — With temperatures expected to plunge to 36°F (2°C) tonight, the City of San Angelo is taking action to support its homeless population. An emergency warming shelter will be available at the Carl Ray Recreation Center, located at 1103 Farr St. Doors will open at 9 p.m. and remain open until 9 a.m. the following morning. The American Red Cross is contributing by providing sleeping cots for those in need.
The city is making accommodations for pets, allowing homeless individuals to bring their animals with them, provided the animals are well-behaved and not disruptive. This policy ensures that both residents and their furry companions have a warm place to stay.
Volunteers are crucial for the operation of the shelter, and the city is actively seeking individuals to lend their time and support. Those interested in volunteering can sign up online to make a difference.
This cold snap is expected to persist, with chilly temperatures continuing through Wednesday, November 1, 2023. However, there is a warm-up on the horizon; overnight temperatures are forecasted to reach the high 60s°F (15-20°C) as the weekend approaches.
