SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Fire Department is combating a house fire in the 2000 block of Field St. just off N. Howard St. Initial reports are that multiple engines were dispatched and over the radio, we heard firefighters looking for more water sources.
Initial reports are that an AEP transformer exploded behind the house setting the house afire. Smoke could be seen for miles. Witnesses at the scene are worried that the family cat did not survive.
The call for the fire happened just before 3 p.m. and by 3:20 p.m. the flames and smoke receded. The firefighters then set forth to mop up the scene. Adjacent homes did not appear to be impacted.
According to our observation, there is significant damage to the home but it may not be a total loss. Information we received from the scene, which is preliminary, is that the transformer overheated.
