SAN ANGELO, TX — Two City of San Angelo employees have been fired following a 'scandal' in the City's Recreation Department, we were told in several tips from sources who do not want to be identified. So we checked and discovered that at least two public-facing City Rec employees are no longer employed at the City of San Angelo because the employment of both was terminated. There are questions about a third person involved but the City did not confirm it.
According to the City of San Angelo's website, as of Aug. 23, 2023, the City of San Angelo's Recreation Department currently has vacancies for their Recreation Manager, Asst. Recreation Manager, and Recreation Coordinator.
The previous staff included Recreation Manager Brent Casey, Assistant Recreation Manager John Henry Perez, and Recreation Coordinator. In a statement, the City of San Angelo was able to confirm that Perez and Casey were fired.
The City confirmed that the third person is still employed at the city. The vacancy for Recreation Coordinator came open as a result of the closure and realignment of the Nature Center.
Rumors throughout the city allege specifically the reason why Casey and Perez are no longer employed by the City of San Angelo is because of a 'scandal.' However, the City will not confirm if these two were fired for cause while claiming the circumstances of the employment of two public-facing former employees are legally shrouded under human resources and employment law.
Both Casey and Perez were frequent guests on the LIVE! Daily News Show where both discussed leagues and programs that were upcoming at City Rec.
So, the City released the following statement:
Employment with the City of San Angelo for Brent Casey and John Henry Perez has been terminated. Because this is an employment matter, no further comment will be provided.
