Council Approves Grant Funds to Renovate Historic San Angelo City Park

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Grant money for the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council of the Concho Valley will help transform a dated east San Angelo city park into a children's paradise.

During the San Angelo City Council meeting, on July 18, 2023, the council approved using the grant money to transform Bell park. The park is located on Lowrie Avenue near the Dunbar East Motel and Restaurant.

Currently the Park has one concrete slab that is used for a ball court, a pair of swings, a walking trail, and a picnic area. The City will be looking at completely renovated the park and add new playground equipment.

San Angelo Parks Department head Carl White explained that $94,000 was received by ADACCV from the Texas Health and Human Services. The grant is to  "reduce anxiety, stresses, and trauma in our community." He also said it was to promote behavioral health and wellness.

The completion date for renovations to the park is unknown. Along with Bell Park, renovations will also be made to Mountainview Park.
