Protest Breaks Out at Be Theatre’s ‘Family Friendly’ Drag Show

SAN ANGELO, TX — A protest broke out at the Be Theatre on Saturday afternoon, condemning a drag show that was labeled as "family-friendly” for targeting children.

Two different groups showed up in opposition to the show. The first group comprised community activists, including members of local Tea Partt, pachyderm, and Republican women groups.

This group held signs on the steps of the San Angelo Performing Arts Center. The signs bore statements such as "protect our children," "In September, Texas will outlaw this," "God created man and woman, Democrats created all other genders," and more. The group also brought a speaker and played popular Christian pop music.

The second group waited in the parking lot across the street from SAPAC. This group consisted of members from local churches handing out Bibles to everyone attending the event.

As for the drag queens and the staff of the Be Theatre, they welcomed their show-goers by singing and dancing in front of the theatre. The songs included various secular classics, including Disney songs like "I Just Can't Wait to be King" from The Lion King.

The shows will continue throughout the weekend

This is senseless. Why are they protesting these harmless transvestities when there is an Air Force base in town which represents forces that push this ideology on everyone at home and abroad?

Why do they target the weak?

Go gay or go to heaven

Harmless??? By the same reasoning it would be ok to take your little girl or little boy into a strip club for a good time? I mean they wear pasties so they don't actually, truly show anything. You could take a group of 5 year olds to watch one of the many extremely violent graphic movies out there as long as you tell the kids "it's ok no one really dies"? What a child perceives is a lot different than what an adult does while experiencing the same event.

As far as the Air Force, I seriously doubt those Airmen were allowed to choose how or what they express anything in a parade. Someone in authority passed down those orders.

By that logic, those tractable little airmen can't be held accountable for their actions because it is the people who have authority over them who are to blame. Logically, then, it is necessary for intractable individuals proclaiming that "God Is Great" to stop them and their superiors from making more poor life decisions.

Rita, if I believe in something I will debate it's pros and cons with anyone, anytime. If someone I disagree with proves to have a valid point, I will yield to their reasoning as I have with you in the past. However, I will not waste my time arguing semantics with anyone.

Just pointing out that this is part of the reason why the rest of the world hates the US. Carry on...
