SAN ANGELO— The ASU Trumpet Ensemble are putting on a concert with the ASU Chamber Singers.
The Angelo State University Trumpet Ensemble will present its annual spring concert with special guests, the ASU Chamber Singers, on Tuesday, April 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 32 North Irving Street in downtown San Angelo.
Titled "Thy Trumpets Shall Sing as Angels," the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The Trumpet Ensemble and Chamber Singers will also be accompanied by Dr. John Irish, professor of music, on trumpet and Hunter Mabery, staff accompanist, on piano.
The Trumpet Ensemble will open the concert with performances of:
- Finale from "William Tell" by Gioachino Rossini
- "Wiegenlied, Op. 7" by Oskar Boehme
- "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen
The Chamber Singers will then perform "Dies Irae" by Ryan Main accompanied by Mabery, and will then join with the Trumpet Ensemble to perform "Mass for Five Voices" by William Byrd accompanied by Irish and conducted by Dr. Eric Posada, director of choral activities.
The Trumpet Ensemble will then conclude the concert with:
- "Ave Maria" by Franz Biebl
- "Triumphal March" from "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi
The Trumpet Ensemble is directed by Irish and includes 10 ASU student musicians, as well as two future ASU students already accepted into the Trumpet Studio program.
The Chamber Singers are directed by Posada and include 10 ASU student singers and Dr. Mark Covey, assistant professor of music.
