SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo City Council on Tuesday morning decided the fate of Cox Lane.
As previously reported, on Jan. 18, 2023, Director of Planning & Development Services for the city presented an a proposed item to the council regarding Cox lane. The main reason of discussion came up after a land developer proposed to build a subdivision on the Cox Farm.
During the first reading the City Council voted 3-2 against abandoning the road. This time however all council members were in attendance. This resulted in approving the eventual abandonment of Cox lane 6-1. The one council member who voted against the abandonment was Karen Hesse-Smith. She was on the fence but ended up voting against.
Since beginning of discussion residents across the area have shown their disapproval in council meetings. The main concern will be the amount of traffic that will now be on Parkview. This is not the only complaint that has been made either. For the full list of complaints see: San Angeloans Angry Over City Plans to Close Cox Lane
As of now the street will remain open. However, once developers begin developing the subdivision they will reroute Cox lane.

So despite the many people who live in the area and will be affected by this not wanting Parkview to become a through street, the council decided to do the opposite. So much for looking out for the interests of the people who elected them.
