Fire Erupts inside San Angelo’s Homeless Camp

SAN ANGELO, TX — Overnight just after 12:30 a.m., the San Angelo Fire Department and police responded to a fire inside the homeless encampment located just west of N. Bryant Blvd. at 14th St.

Over the radio, crews were notifying one another initially that it was a grass fire. Eventually, word came out over the radio that a tent or small structure was on fire. Fire crews doused the area with water after extinguishing the fire. We do not know what happened to the homeless who were displaced by the fire.

We couldn’t get too close but the smoke was intense. We will try to follow up in the morning.
