SAPD Released Statement on Prank Phone Calls Regarding the Blue Santa Program

SAN ANGELO, TX- The San Angelo Police Department released the following statement regarding phone calls from an unknown individual contacting families telling them they have been selected for the 2021 “Blue Santa” Program.

The Facebook post is as follows:

“The San Angelo Police Department has been made aware of an unknown person contacting families via telephone regarding being selected for the “Blue Santa” program.

This is not correct and we want to make the public aware that we will not contact anyone via telephone regarding being selected for the “Blue Santa” program. We would also like to inform the public that the selection process for the children/families for the program is directly handled by SAISD Counselors as well as the “At Risk” Coordinators at SAISD elementary schools.

The children/families selected for the program will be notified by a letter that is delivered by a San Angelo Police Officer this coming week.

Thank you and have a good rest of the week!”

The Blue Santa program, which is an annual event where San Angelo Police Officers team-up with children who then get to shop for Christmas gifts. Last year, 33 children got to shop at a local Wal-Mart with SAPD and Goodfellow Security Forces.
