SAN ANGELO – The Texas Parks and Wildlife and the San Angelo State Park performed a controlled burn Tuesday near the O.C. Fischer dam and plan on moving to other areas this week.
In a Facebook post, the San Angelo State Park and Texas Parks and Wildlife posted the following message:
“Prescribed burns in the park went good today. We made it from the dam over to the cabins area. Will be working our way further west tomorrow.
Roadrunner and Strawberry Trails are closed until further notice. They will reopen once we get them cleared of fallen trees.
All of the trails from the playground area to Armadillo Ridge will most likely be closed for the burns tomorrow.
Trails from Cougar Overlook to Private Hill are still accessible via 2288 walk-in gates.”

Be that as it may, Tom Green County Commissioners on Tuesday reinstalled a ban on all outdoor burning. Due to the lack of rain and the addition of high winds and low humidity, a 90 day burn ban will take effect on Friday, December 10, 2021 in the morning.
These types of burns (controlled or prescribed) are not covered by the burn ban.
The Texas A&M Forest Service is assisting with the burn.
