SAN ANGELO, TX –– The quest for the construction of bathrooms in Dr. Martin Luther King Park in San Angelo continues as the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is working to secure a grant from local organizations.
During Tuesday's San Angelo City Council meeting, the mayor and council members will consider approving a resolution that will allow the city to support the project.
The NAACP is submitting grant applications to the Tucker Foundation and San Angelo Health Foundation for a total of $250,000.
The grant would cover the design work, site work, utilities (including water, sewer, and electrical), and construction of the restrooms. The proposed facilities would be comparable to the ones at the Jaime Pardon Park off Ben Ficklin Rd.
If the applications are approved, and enough funds are secured to complete the project, then the city commits to paying for the yearly maintenance and operational cost. The estimated cost is approximately $12,000 a year.
The San Angelo City Council meets in council chambers at the McNease Convention Center at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 5. The meeting is open to the public.

Nobody needs bathrooms at a park where they sell heroin and crack. Honestly the park should be moved, it's a eyesore and people are only there to score some dope or find a date for the night.

PermalinkCome on now…. The folks scoring drugs or a “date” needs some privacy to engage in their “activities”. Maybe the $12K maintenance cost would be better spent on law enforcement for the area.

PermalinkOr maybe because I've lived here for 20+ years and know about San Angelo and MLK park. You know nothing, not even that your Potus failed third grade, steals speeches, and can't form a complete thought without a teleprompter, and even then he fails delivering his message. A spitting image of yourself if I may say so. You're still asking for "proof" when it's public knowledge. What a simpleton
