SAN ANGELO, TX – In anticipation of the influx of animal drop-offs that occur after every Fourth of July, the San Angelo Animal Shelter announced it will be closed for intake until Tuesday morning.
The shelter is currently at maximum capacity and is having trouble housing additional pets. As a result of fireworks causing animals to become distressed and flee their homes, citizens are urged to consider additional measures if they encounter stray dogs.
If citizens find stray animals during the weekend there are several things they can do:
- Take the animal to a veterinarian if they are open to see if the animal has a microchip
- Post information and a picture of the animal on helpmegethome.com
- Temporarily house the animal in hopes of connecting with the owner through helpmegethome.com or other means
While the shelter will be closed for intake, Animal Services officers will be available to respond to after-hours calls if the animal is a threat to itself or others.
