City To Launch Out Of The Cold Program If Winter Weather Persists

SAN ANGELO, TX -- With the impending cold weather front only days away, the City of San Angelo has announced it may activate the Out of the Cold program.

The program provides temporary shelter for transient individuals or those who need shelter during inclement weather,

The program, dubbed OTC, is activated when the temperature is expected to dip to 35 degrees or lower by 5 a.m. as forecasted by the Weather Channel for the San Angelo area.

For the program to be activated the forecast is reviewed at 4 p.m to determine if OTC night will be in effect.

If an OTC night is declared, citizens can meet at the parking lot entrance of the Salvation Army Church between 4:30 p.m - 5:30 p.m. This is only available if OTC is activated during a weekday.

If the program is made available during a weekend or holiday, SAPD helps with the intake.

This means individuals in need can wave down an officer and ask for assistance, or they can call the non-emergency number at (325) 657-4315 to receive assistance.
