SAN ANGELO, TX— On Monday morning the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council for the Concho Valley shared a statement regarding the protests and movements that have been underway across the country after the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
Read the full statement below:
“America has beheld a regrettable pattern of the failures of humanity as we witnessed the tremendous suffering of our brothers and sisters these past several weeks due to the senseless and unjust deaths of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and unfortunately many others.”
“ADACCV believes it is essential to announce that we are here to support and stand with our Black community during this very sad and turbulent time. ADACCV will stand firmly with them to emphasize the immediate need for meaningful and overdue reform in some of our country's law enforcement practices that jeopardize and blatantly disregard the dignity and sanctity of human life. Locally, we are blessed with law enforcement agencies that exhibit models of policies and procedures that strengthen our community relationships and we sincerely appreciate their extensive collaboration, partnership, and support. “
“There is an obvious and profound contrast between the absurd loss of life and ADACCV's mission to save lives and create healthier communities. Now in our 60th year, ADACCV has served our community by professionally and compassionately fulfilling our mission by helping countless persons of every race, ethnicity, gender, religion and socio-economic level to recover from substance use disorders and regain their ability to live fully and meaningfully without the misery and suffering caused by the disease of
addiction.”
“Every person in every community across our great country deserves our constant and best efforts to establish and ensure that everyone lives without the fear of the severity of any injustice and with the
assurance of receiving respect, dignity, and compassion from those who are entrusted with their care and well-being.”
“ADACCV is wholeheartedly committed to continuing our support for all individuals in our community and honored to be part of the change that lifts up others and keeps every person safe from enduring any injustice from any authoritative source. ADACCV will work diligently with our community in all efforts that will achieve justice and that will not fail to maintain all life as sacred and worthy of love and compassion.”
Respectfully,
Eric A. Sanchez, AOACCV CED
