SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Police Chief Frank Carter was sworn in for his second four year term during the San Angelo City Council meeting Tuesday morning.
Chief Carter was unopposed in his bid for a second term. That's the first time in recent memory that the San Angelo police chief race went uncontested.
Chief Carter defeated then Chief Tim Vasquez in 2016.
Carter was sworn in by retired municipal judge Allan Gilbert. The ceremony was broadcast during the city council's virtual meeting Tuesday.
Carter and Gilbert were practicing social distancing as seen in the picture above.
Carter was first elected Police Chief in 2016. He garnered the most votes in a four person election including Vasquez, Mike Hernandez and Jeff Davis.
Carter and Vasquez met in a runoff election and Carter won.
San Angelo is one of the last cities in Texas that still elects its chief of police.
