SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo will be receiving $388,646 in Rent and Mortgage Assistance (RMA) funding from the federal government as part of the money authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
The RMA program provides monetary assistance to San Angelo residents in low- to middle- income ranges in order for those families to pay their rent and mortgages. The money granted the City will be earmarked for rent and mortgage payers who we impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic response “in an effort to prevent these households from becoming homeless.” the City said in a statement.
The funding is a part of Community Development Block Grants, or CDBG, originated to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic response. In order to receive these funds, the City must Amend the 2019 Annual Action Plan and provide a 5-day public comment period. Citizens of San Angelo are encouraged to email their comments about this grant to the City of San Angelo’s Neighorhood & Family Services Director, Mr. Robert Salas, at [email protected].
This effort to find federal and state money to aid City of San Angelo programs is a City staff initiative. City Manager Daniel Valenzuela explained the strategy last week.
