SAN ANGELO, TX – April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and even though social distancing has changed the way the community can participate, everyone can join in together to raise awareness and prevent child abuse.
Child abuse can be emotional or verbal, physical, sexual or neglect. Indicators of abuse can include unexplained injuries, changes in behavior, fear of going home, changes in diet or sleep, changes in school performance, lack of personal hygiene or care, risk-taking behavior, and inappropriate sexual behavior or knowledge.
Here are some of the ways to participate all month long:
Blue Friday
Every Friday wear blue, snap a picture, and post on social media using #cacbluefriday to raise awareness. Participates will have a chance to be featured on the social media accounts of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
The Race to 100
The Children’s Advocacy Center is aiming to recruit 100 CASA Volunteers in 100 days. Those interested in volunteering can participate in virtual CASA training.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Training
The Children’s Advocacy Center is offering free online training to teach community members about the issues surrounding child abuse. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of abuse and how to make a report.
Blue Sunday
April 26 is National Day of Prayer for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Churches across America will be joining in prayer and will take a stand against child abuse.
