Real Estate Company Opens Tab at Various San Angelo Restaurants so Health Care Providers can Eat Free

SAN ANGELO, TX — ERA Newlin & Company is doing their part to give back to all medical staff that are working tirelessly to help contain the spread of the coronavirus in the community.

The real estate company announced on Facebook that starting Friday, March 27, they would be opening a $500 lunch tab at several eateries in San Angelo. As of right now, four restaurants have been added to the list and more are expected in the coming days.

Ryan Newlin talked with San Angelo LIVE! reporters and expressed his hope that other businesses follow suit and find ways to give back to healthcare workers while supporting local businesses.

Orders may be take-out only and the $500 tab will be available to nurses, doctors, physician’s assistants, EMTs, lab techs, and all medical staff. Patrons only need to mention "ERA Cares" and show their credentials, like a badge from a hospital.

The following restaurants will be participating beginning March 27:

City Café & Bakery --108 N Pierce St

  • Ph: 325- 224-4471

Tossed: Fresh Food Fast --2005 Knickerbocker Road

While this may be a gesture of thanks to front line health care providers, these people make better than average salaries and are currently employed. I think the better gesture would be to donate to people that have lost their jobs or have had their hours cut due to this virus.

Great point, but how does one prove that? They have no credentials & any Joe Schmo could claim their hours were cut or they were suddenly unemployed...

I don't know, Cmdr, I appreciate what the company is trying to do, and I'm really not trying to be critical of them. It just seems like there are more deserving recipients of this kind of assistance. How to identify/verify those affected? Good question.
