Newspaper Building for Sale After 70 Years

 

ABILENE, TX – After nearly 70 years of housing the Abilene Reporter-News, the building has officially been listed for sale.

According to KTXS, in November of 2018, the building was heavily damaged by an electrical fire. Nearly 60 firefighters from the Abilene Fire Department responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames. Since the fire, the building underwent major renovations, including a new roof and updated electrical.

Abilene Reporter-News is owned by Gannett, Inc, which owns over 20 news publications in the state of Texas. Their brands include the San Angelo Standard-Times, the Runnels County Register located in Ballinger and the Brownwood Bulletin.

The building was built in 1950 and is located on the corner of Cypress and North 1st. The building is 102,275 square feet and sits on a 2.34-acre lot. The asking price for the iconic downtown building is $3.5 million.
