SAN ANGELO, TX – Today is the day! Christmas at Old Fort Concho is back and better than ever.
The festival kicks of today, Dec. 6, at at 3 p.m. and will continue through Sunday.
The Christmas weekend includes the Winter Rendezvous, dozens of merchants, re-enactors, from the past brought to life. Also Friday, there is an historic walk through the fort which includes information on the legacy of Fort Concho and all it has offered San Angelo throughout the years.
Then at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Santa will be in the Santa House with Candy Canes and Ornaments for the children to build. They will also be offering the kids a chance to write a letter to Santa.
On Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m., the San Angelo Lions Club will be kicking off the day with a pancake breakfast with the Santa himself. A boot camp will be held at 10:30 a.m. for kids to learn what it was like to be a soldier of the 1800's. Boot camp includes learning how to drill and march.
A tea party is the next thing planned for Saturday and it will be presented by Miss Birdie. It costs $10 per child and begins at 11:00 a.m. At the same time this is going on, Native Americans will be presenting demonstrations and examples of their culture during the "Indian Lore."
The Highlight of the Saturday will be at 11:30 and 2:30 p.m. when outlaws meet good guys at the gun fight at old Santa Angela. Then at 2:00 p.m. the Fort Concho baseball team will take the field for some an old fashion game.
The night will conclude with "A Musical Night in Another Century" featuring the Frontier Brigade Band of Fort Worth and Oklahoma's Sweet Song String Band.
On Sunday the San Angelo Cowboy Chuck Wagon Team will be hosting their annual cowboy chuck wagon breakfast starting at 9:00 a.m. Then the preacher from San Angelo's Cowboy Church will give a sermon at 10:00 a.m.
The final day will be filled with merchants and history. Santa will be there from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and the Concho Cowboy Company will have a gunfight a 2:30 p.m.
Christmas at Old Fort Concho will end with the Winter Rendezvous Retreat Ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
