SAN ANGELO, TX – As the city is gearing up to honor veterans on November 11th, activities and events will be happening starting this weekend.

On Saturday, November 9th, the annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Concho Ave and Irving St. The parade is hosted by the Three Rivers Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol.

During the parade, The Casual Pint will be grilling up “the best street tacos in town” at the hands of Chef Ronnie Cajas, who is an Army veteran. Horny Toad Brewery will also be present at The Casual Pint debuting a special beer called DD-124 that will be found exclusively at The Casual Pint. All veterans are invited to be served the “best beer in town” by fellow veterans.

San Angelo Elks Lodge will be serving free hot dogs, hamburgers, and chips to all veterans and their families starting after the parade and ending around 3:00 p.m.

After the parade head over to the inaugural Red, White, & Blue Car Show and Children's Fair at the Farmers Market (609 South Oakes). From 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. families can enjoy kid's karaoke, face painting, a washer pitching tournament and so much more.

On Monday, November 11th,  San Angelo Community Medical Center will be honoring veterans and their spouses who are employed at SACMC at 9:00 a.m. The Goodfellow Air Force Base Honor Guard will do a flag presentation, firing party and play TAPS. Those wishing to attend can congregate at the front lawn of the hospital.

At 11:00 a.m., Friends of the Fairmount at the Fairmount Cemetery will be hosting the annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The event will begin at 11:00 with an invocation by Pastor Mack Roller of Glen Meadows Baptist Church. State Representative Drew Darby, Mayor Brenda Gunter, and guest speaker Colonel Andres Nazario, 17th Wing Commander, Goodfellow Air Force Base, will also be present at the event.

The Fort Concho NHL Staff along with the Infantry, Artillery, and Buffalo Soldiers will be participating in the event. The All Veterans Council Honor Guard will be presenting the colors and the national anthem will be performed by Becca Cain. The Sons of Confederate Veterans will honor the fallen heroes with a volley firing and Chris Morgan will close the ceremony by playing the bagpipes.

Also starting at 11:00 a.m., Shenanigan’s Sports Bar will be offering a free drink and chips and queso for all of those who have served or are currently serving as a form of gratitude for their service.

Most city offices will be closed on Monday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. Garbage collection and landfill operations will remain on a regular schedule.
