SAN ANGELO, TX – Shrimpfest 2019 is right around the corner and this year you don’t want to miss it!
Head over to Kirby Park on Saturday, September 28, from 4:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. for all you can eat shrimp prepared by the San Angelo Rotary Club. Tickets are only $20 per person and include unlimited shrimp, coleslaw, sausage, and potato salad.
Shrimpfest is a long-standing tradition in San Angelo and has been successful in fundraising for worthy causes and organizations in the city. The proceeds for his year will be benefiting Meals for the Elderly, a San Angelo institution for the last 45 years.
“The money that we raise will be dedicated to the purchase of a new oven for Meals for the Elderly,” said Francis Jelensperger, President-Elect and organizer of this year’s event. “So come over for the food and fun.”
The proceeds from the event will be used to purchase a new double-stacking convection oven for Meals for the Elderly. This will allow them to not only continue providing warm meals for seniors in town but also expand and keep up with the demand for hot foods, especially with the holidays coming up.
Meals for the Elderly is a non-profit that relies solely on community donations and support. They provide a hot meal Monday through Friday for homebound seniors over 65, who may not be physically or mentally able to prepare nutritious meals for themselves. The program helps seniors continue to live in their homes instead of assisted living facilities.
They have the support of over 3,000 volunteers and preparing the high number of hot meals is an expensive though necessary and appreciated service. For anyone interested in volunteering you can contact Meals for the Elderly at (325) 655-9200 or by visiting their website at www.mealsfortheelderly.org. There are several different ways to volunteer and the complete list can be found online. Donations can be made online as well. If you or anyone you know requires assistance, please contact the organization for more information.
“The Rotary Club has been very supportive of us through years, but this year the Rotary Club approached us and asked what we needed the most,” said Charlyn Ocker, President & CEO of Meals of the Elderly in San Angelo, “This [oven] is really going to help us a lot with meal preparation and being able to do more meals much more efficiently. We are really excited about it”
Shrimpfest organizers hope to serve over 1,000 people this year and it’s up to the community to help them reach the goal. Tickets will be available for purchase at the event for $20 each.
