SAN ANGELO, TX - Sunday marked the 37th Annual Spring Chicken Affair behind First Financial Bank that did more than serve up some of the best chicken in town.
The annual event hosted by The West Texas Rehab Center brings San Angelo to the table to raise money for the life-changing programs at the rehab center.
"We're known for our excellent care, but more than that for taking care of our patients regardless of their financial circumstance," said Donor Relations of the West Texas Rehab Center Jenifer King. "We do these events because we don't turn patients away."
WATCH: Chicken For A Local Cause
As for the chicken itself, close to nine-thousand pieces are prepared in about four hours.
"We actually take it from raw, fresh and bread and fry it right here on site," said Silo House chef and volunteer Michael Hennessy. "
For Hennessy who's been a part of the event since it's inception says he looks at the Spring Chicken Affair as a reunion.
"It's like a reunion of sorts. We have the old Southern Sea. That's who I used to work for when we started it (Spring Chicken Affair)," said Hennessy. Theirs's a hand full of use that come up and it do it every year. It's just a fun, worthwhile, and challenging event to do chicken for so many people in just a few hours."
