Firefighters' Annual Fill the Boot Fundraiser Starts This Week

SAN ANGELO, TX – Firefighters from the San Angelo Fire Department are ready to kickoff the annual Fill the Boot fundraiser to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association find needed cures and treatments for muscular dystrophy, ALS and similar diseases that greatly limits strength and mobility.

Over 150 firefighters from SAFD will spread out across the city with fire boots in tow for this year’s drive from Wednesday October 3 through Friday the 5th at these intersections:

  • Harris & Abe
  • 29th & Bryant
  • Johnson & Knickerbocker
  • Sherwood Way & Ave N.

Firemen will be on the streets from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.

“For more than sixty-three years, fire fighters have stood on the front lines with MDA in the fight to free individuals and the families who love them from the harm of these life-threatening muscle diseases,” said Sr. Fundraising Coordinator, Ashley Quintana. “Each year, San Angelo firefighters dedicate countless hours of their time participating in Fill the Boot drives and at MDA Summer Camp. We're grateful for their steadfast drive and uncommon caring toward the kids and adults we serve and look forward to working together once again to make this Fill the Boot season a huge success.

This campaign is a noble tradition where thousands of dedicated firefighters across America go out into the community to collect donations from citizens for MDA to help kids continue to live and grow.

In 1954, The International Association of Fire Fighters’ committed to support MDA until a cure is found. Last year, the SAFD raised around $54,000, and to date, the IAFF has raised $583 million for MDA.
