SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued an Increased Fire Weather Concern for today because of wind gusts exceeding 45 mph across the region, from Abilene to San Angelo. The high and gusting winds encouraged a grass fire to spread south of S. Concho Dr. near Lake Nasworthy just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The grass fire was being tackled by San Angelo Fire Department assets, while Christoval VFD and Dove Creek VFD were called because both agencies have brush fire equipment. The fire appeared to be contained as of 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, even as gusty winds continued.
The high winds are caused by a cold front moving into the area from the North-Northeast. The San Angelo NWS said temperatures will be in the mid- to high-30s Wednesday morning. But temperatures will warm throughout the rest of the day on Wednesday.
Expect windy conditions behind the front with gusty winds across the area through late tonight of 20-35 mph.
