Eureste Promoted to WIC Manager

SAN ANGELO, TX — Cristina Eureste, who has worked in San Angelo’s Women, Infants and Children’s program nearly 22 years, has been promoted to serve as its manager.

Eureste had been serving as WIC’s interim manager since Gillian MacKenzie’s retirement in January.

Women, Infants and Children is a City-administered nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. Along with its main offices in the Community Development Building, 52 W. College Ave., WIC has three satellite locations: at Goodfellow Air Force Base, and in Ballinger and Coleman.

“I believe in WIC’s mission because I’ve seen the difference it makes in the lives of mothers and their children,” Eureste said. “San Angelo has one of the best WIC programs in Texas. That’s a testament to the dedication of our staff. I feel fortunate to get to help them help our clients.”

Eureste previously worked six years as a certification specialist, completing nutrition assessments, health histories and blood work, and teaching group classes. Prior to that, she was a social service assistant for 13 years, interviewing and screening clients for program eligibility, and issuing benefits.

Eureste began her career in WIC in 1996 as a breastfeeding peer counselor, teaching new mothers the importance of breastfeeding, sometimes during home and hospital visits.

“Cristina is obviously committed to WIC,” said Morgan Chegwidden, assistant director of the City’s Neighborhood and Family Services Department. “She understands the breadth and the depth of the services WIC provides – because she has worked in most of them. Her passion and experience will serve her well in leading WIC’s staff to continue to help mothers and their babies.”
