Suspect Apprehended at Bosque Park after He Assaulted Police Officer During Suspicious Person Call on Avenue A

 

San Angelo, TX (SAPD Press Release) February 26, 2018 — At approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of W. Avenue A for the report of a suspicious man inside a residence that was supposed to be vacant. 

The first responding Officer located the man in question inside a garage apartment, holding a shovel.  As the Officer attempted to identify the subject and determine his interest in the property, the subject reached for his waistband and a struggle ensued.  During the physical altercation, the subject assaulted the Officer and restricted the Officer’s airway.  The Officer received minor injuries during the assault but did not require medical treatment.  

After disengaging the assault on the Officer, the subject fled the area on foot towards the Bosque Park, which is known to be heavily populated with pedestrian traffic during the lunch hour. 

Additional responding Officers swiftly converged on the area and located the suspect running east through the park.  The suspect, later identified as Leroy A. Enriquez, 30, of San Angelo, was quickly taken into custody with minor incident. 

Enriquez was treated at the scene for minor injuries he received during his assault on the Officer and during his apprehension.  Enriquez was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer, Felony Enhanced Evading Arrest with Prior Convictions, Criminal Trespass, and Resisting Arrest. 

Police later located a loaded firearm in the garage apartment where the assault occurred.
