Tie Everything Down! Strong Winds Are Forecasted Starting Wednesday

SAN ANGELO, TX — Three fronts will pass through here by Saturday. Here’s what you need to know.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo said this evening that strong winds will blow in San Angelo and the rest of the Concho Valley beginning Wednesday.

An upper level storm system will pass through coming from New Mexico on its way to Oklahoma and Kansas. The NWS said the storm will have dry air and cause the surface winds out of the southwest to be sustained in the 15-20 mph range and gust to over 30 mph by Wednesday afternoon.

No precipitation is expected with that storm’s passage.

With the strong winds, the NWS is anticipating record high temperatures for Jan. 10. The current record high is 80 degrees F. NWS said it will approach or exceed that.

Don’t put away your jackets and sweaters just yet, though. Thursday, another front, this time a cold one, will dip down through the region from Canada. Temperatures will drop all day Thursday, from a high of 52 to the 30s overnight. The wind will shift from the southwest to out of the north, and gusts are forecasted to be 35 mph.

The wind will reduce to 5 to 10 mph but cold will continue into the weekend as a second cold front arrives Saturday. Low temperatures expected to be below freezing at 29 degrees F.

All throughout the week, the skies are expected to remain clear, mostly clear, and sunny.

The wind will die down by Sunday, but the temperatures will remain cold Sunday and into the beginning of next week. The NWS is expecting highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s during the early part of next week.
